About Vitalex

A supply partner built around theatre reality, not catalogue convenience.

Vitalex Ltd is a medical consumables company based in Newcastle upon Tyne, supplying customised single-use surgical procedure packs and sterile draping sets to NHS trusts, private hospitals, day-case units, specialist clinics and veterinary practices across the United Kingdom.

We were formed because of a gap that anyone who has worked around an operating theatre recognises. Procedure packs are bought in standard configurations, then adapted at the sterile field — items opened and set aside, components missing and fetched separately, and a waste bag that tells the real story of how well the pack matched the procedure. Meanwhile the same theatre is under mounting pressure to evidence waste reduction and carbon reporting it has no supplier data to support.

Vitalex exists to close both gaps at once. We build packs to the specification your clinicians actually work to, and we supply the recovery documentation your sustainability and procurement teams actually need. Our manufacturing partners are established, certified and near-shore — principally in Portugal and the United Kingdom — which keeps lead times short, keeps freight emissions low and gives us genuine dual-source resilience.

How we work

01
We start with the preference card

Every pack specification begins with what your team already uses, not with what we already stock.

02
We quote fast and in writing

Same working day for standard packs, 48 hours for bespoke builds, with the full component list stated so there is nothing to interpret.

03
We sample before we sell

You evaluate a physical pack against a real list before any volume commitment.

04
We document everything

Regulatory, quality and sustainability evidence is supplied as a complete pack, not on request.

05
We stay small and responsive

You deal with the people who make the decisions. Nothing routes through a call centre.

The values driving our journey

Six principles that shape how every pack is specified, documented and delivered.

01

Precision

Every pack is specified from a real preference card, so the contents match the procedure rather than a catalogue.

02

Safety

Sterile single-use construction to ISO 13485, with a full regulatory and quality documentation pack supplied up front.

03

Collaboration

We build alongside your theatre and procurement teams, not at arm’s length from them.

04

Innovation

Right-sizing packs against usage data cuts cost per procedure and waste at source at the same time.

05

Adaptability

Small, direct and near-shore: bespoke builds and second-supplier positions without long procurement cycles.

06

Communication

A named contact answers quotations and queries the same working day. Nothing routes through a call centre.

Why customers choose Vitalex

NHS trusts

  • Right-sizing packs against real preference-card data reduces both cost per procedure and waste at source — the reduce tier the NHS clinical waste strategy and the Green Surgery Report both prioritise.
  • GreenCycle documentation supports Scope 3 Category 5 reporting, the 20:20:60 waste segregation targets and Evergreen submissions, using data traceable to Biffa and PHS waste transfer notes.
  • Dual-sourced near-shore manufacturing provides a credible second-supplier position for categories where single-source exposure has already caused disruption.
  • A complete regulatory and quality documentation pack supplied up front, so supplier onboarding does not stall.
  • Small, direct and responsive — quotations and queries answered by a named contact the same working day.

Private hospitals and clinics

  • Cost per procedure is visible and controllable, because you are not paying for components your list never opens.
  • Fast quotation and low minimum commitments suit independent providers and single-site operators who cannot absorb long procurement cycles.
  • High-volume day-case specialties are directly supported, including ophthalmic intravitreal and cataract lists where pack design has a measurable effect on list throughput.
  • Waste recovery documentation supports CQC evidence, group ESG reporting and tender submissions to integrated care boards.
  • Consistent, defined pack contents on every reorder — specified once, then reliable.

Veterinary practices and groups

  • Sterile single-use draping removes the laundry cycle entirely — no autoclave time, no CSSD labour, no barrier-failure risk from repeated washing.
  • Drapes and sets manufactured to the same construction standards as our human-surgical range, by the same ISO 13485-certified manufacturer.
  • Purchasing is direct and immediate. No framework, no tender, no procurement committee — a practice manager can order.
  • Waste recovery documentation that corporate veterinary groups can report against their published ESG commitments.
  • Formats for both small-animal and equine work, including large-format equine laparotomy and arthroscopy sets.

Accreditation highlights

Status is stated plainly on each item — an honest “in progress” reads better to a procurement assessor than an unverifiable claim.
